The book focuses on the Swedish context but provides insights that are globally applicable, while offering lessons for other countries that have implemented consent-based rape laws. By examining the limitations of the conventional legal application of autonomy, rationality and objectivity, the authors argue for an evolved approach to ensure fairness and effectiveness. Integrating feminist legal theory with the sociology of emotion, the book shows how emotional and contextual factors shape legal reasoning.

With the goal of making legal processes for sexual violence more transparent, predictable, and democratic worldwide, this is an urgent call for improved professional training in emotional reflexivity and empathy.
