Meet Jacob Allestam, new PhD student
Jacob Allestam is one of five new PhD students joining the department this autumn. Originally from Gothenburg, his interest in research grew during his Master’s in Finance, where a passion for quantitative methods and exploring research questions independently led him towards a PhD.
Jacob Allestam is from Gothenburg and have a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Finance from the University of Gothenburg. Before joining the PhD program, Iheworked a brief time in auditing.
What sparked your interest in pursuing research?
"I became interested in research during my Master's degree. I particularly enjoyed the more quantitative and mathematical parts of my degree, and writing my Master’s thesis made me realize how much I enjoyed working independently with a research question. A PhD felt like a natural next step to continue exploring these interests."
What research fields are you most curious to explore during your PhD?
"I wrote my Master's thesis on how macroeconomic conditions affect asset pricing, which is a field I am interested in continuing to explore. However, I have several research interests and am open to developing new ones during my time in the program."
"I hope to become a stronger and more independent researcher. Beyond research, I’m looking forward to developing my teaching skills and learning from the researchers around me."
What made you choose to apply to the University of Gothenburg?
"Having already studied at the University of Gothenburg, I knew the academic environment and had a positive experience here. The university is also a good match for my research interests, and I was influenced by my supervisors and professors during my Master's degree."
