About Benjamin Husvik

In my dissertation project, entitled "From many king’s sons to a few children to the queen: queenship and female succession in Norway with European outlook, 1163–1302", I examine the development of female succession and queenship in Norway during the High Middle Ages in relation to a wider European context. What is specifically studied is the introduction of female succession and the establishment of the queen's exclusive function as royal mother over other women. The ambition of exploring Norway through a European lens is primarily to produce new knowledge about women as heirs to the kingdom and the evolution of the queenship within this country, while at the same time extract some new insights about these two phenomena elsewhere in Europe.
