The course covers key principles and concepts in research design, including causal and descriptive research designs, identification strategies, and validity assessments. A central aim is to strengthen your ability to compare, justify, and critically evaluate design choices in relation to theoretical questions and empirical evidence.
Teaching is conducted on campus through lectures and seminars. Seminars focus on analyzing scholarly articles and in-depth discussion of research design. Active participation is required. Assessment is through a written in-person examination.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires a pass in at least 60 credits in the main field of political science (of which at least 30 credits from in-depth courses), or equivalent. In addition, language proficiency equivalent to English 6 or English Level 2 is required.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
