Applied Geophysics

Want to take your knowledge of geology, water, and the environment to the next level? In this course, you will learn how to use geophysical instruments, process raw data, and model geophysical measurement results.
About
The course deepens your knowledge of the physical properties of rocks and soils, basic mathematical and physical relationships, seismics, gravity, magnetism, electricity, and electromagnetism. You will learn to describe areas of application for geophysical measurements in geology, the environment, water, and exploration for raw materials.
You will also learn to define geological problems, plan your own projects, and develop your skills in report writing and oral presentation of collected data and interpretations.
The course is part of the Master's Programme n Earth Sciences and can also be taken as a stand-alone course.

The teaching is carried out by dedicated teachers who are researchers in the field. The course has a strong research and labour market connection, which you as a student will benefit from.

Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires completed courses comprising at least 120 credits in the main field of Earth Scinces, of which at least 75% with a passing grade, as well as completed course in geophysics, e.g. GVG350, or equivalent knowledge. Applicants with equivalent education can, after review and approval, be admitted to the course.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
After graduation
If you study Earth Science at the University of Gothenburg, you can expect good career opportunities both in Sweden and abroad. You can choose to work in industry, as a consultant, project manager or in public administration.
Our former students work, for example, with natural resource management, environmental issues and urban planning, you also have great opportunities to focus on the particular area you are interested in.
