Why is the deep Arctic Ocean Warming? (WAOW)

Research project

Short description

Four kilometres below the sea ice cover, the deep Arctic Ocean is warming. It should not; it is about as far from any human influence as can be. In this project, we explore possible reasons for such a warming, from within and out of the Arctic, using all available historical observations and new in-situ data collected by this team, including chemical tracers. Our results so far reveal how little we actually know about the dynamics of the deep Arctic Ocean, how poorly it is represented in climate models, and therefore how little we can say for sure about its future.
