Ta plats! (Claim your space!)

Research group

Short description

The Ta plats! research group brings together researchers, teachers and doctoral students who explore place and public space as a foundation for artistic practice and research.

In a time of global crises and spatial–social segregation, site-specific artistic research has gained increasing relevance. Historically, artists have contributed interpretations, critical reflections, and creative responses to societal developments, and this research builds upon this legacy. Initiatives such as 'Politik för gestaltad livsmiljö' (Policy for Designed Living Environments) and the New European Bauhaus highlight the crucial role of art and culture in democratic development and the sustainability of society.

Ta plats! A cross-disciplinary research group for site-specific research

Ta plats! is a research group that brings together teachers, researchers and doctoral students from the Academy of Music and Drama. The group focuses on the use of place and public space as a basis for artistic practice and research. The group serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, joint development and critical reflection on site-specific artistic practices.

During spring 2026, the group will meet two or three times for seminars focusing on specific sites, during which participants will present ongoing projects and discuss upcoming applications and courses within the field.

The group was formed to continue and develop the knowledge and research produced by the Public Life, Arts and Critical Engagement (PLACE) project.
