Short description

The overall aim of the project is to increase knowledge and understanding about mechanism of injuries, overuse injuries among bicyclists including risk factors for bicycle crashes in order to develop prevention strategies – on an individual level as well as from a transportation and urban planning sector level.
In line with the global efforts for sustainable development and Agenda 2030 in which active transportation- including bicycling – has taken a central role for promoting physical activity while reducing emissions from motorized traffic to increase health and well-being, bicycling has risen in popularity. However, in Sweden, the number of bicyclists killed per passenger kilometre has been reported to be five times higher than for car occupants. Likewise, the prevalence of overuse injuries among bicyclists can be as high as 85%.
