Competitiveness and benefits of gender equality

Both the Nordic region and the rest of Europe are facing significant challenges in a rapidly changing world. This is a time marked by global economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, but also by swift global technological development.

In Mario Draghi’s report The Future of European Competitiveness (2024), produced at the request of the European Commission, digital transformation, the green transition, and economic resilience are highlighted as three key areas of action for strengthening European competitiveness. To contribute to the discussion on how Nordic competitiveness can be reinforced, it is important to emphasise the role of gender equality within these transformations, in a way that relates to the Nordic Council of Ministers’ priorities for a competitive, green, and socially sustainable Nordic region.

The project Competitiveness and benefits of gender equality will result in a knowledge base that deepens, broadens, and, to some extent, challenges current understandings of competitiveness. This will be achieved through an analysis based on studies from Nordic as well as European and international contexts, bringing gender and equality perspectives into issues of relevance.

Project duration: 2026
Target groups: Policymakers in the Nordic co-operation.

We collaborate with: Researchers and other experts in the Nordic countries.
Commissioned by: Nordic Council of Ministers

The project is a part of our Focus Area “An equal Nordic region".
