The Lancet Infectious Diseases Commission on antimicrobial resistance: 6 years later

In a 2013 paper published in Lancet Infectious Diseases, the state of antimicrobial resistance worldwide was described. This follow-up paper, led by Ramanan Laxminarayan and coauthored by several leading scientists on antimicrobial resistance across the world, describes what has changed since then.

Professor Joakim Larsson, director at CARe and one of the co-authors comments on the study:
- While the fight against AMR has increased on many fronts lately, efforts made are still far from sufficient, regardless if we talk about supporting drug development, improving surveillance, preventing inappropriate use or reducing environmental transmission. Lack of real political commitment, basically across the globe, is still preventing the kind of change that is needed.
