New one-year structure for the MSc in Finance from 2027

Published

From autumn 2027, the Master’s Programme in Finance at the School of Business, Economics and Law will be offered in a new programme structure. The programme will move from two years to one year and has been extensively redesigned to meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s finance industry.

A more focused and coherent programme

“This is not simply a matter of shortening the existing programme. We have redesigned it around the core areas of modern finance. The result is a more focused and coherent programme, with a clear and shared learning journey for all students,” says Programme Director Adam Farago.

The new programme structure allows courses to build progressively on one another throughout the year, moving from financial theory and quantitative methods to programming, data analysis and more advanced finance-related topics.

“An important part of the redesign has been creating a clearer progression between courses. Students first develop a solid foundation in finance and quantitative methods and then apply these skills to data, empirical analysis and more complex financial problems.”

Three key components of the programme

At the same time, the programme places greater emphasis on skills that are becoming increasingly important within the finance industry, including financial data, programming and modern analytical tools.

“Three things are central to the new programme: finance, data and analytical thinking. We want students to understand both the financial ideas behind a problem and how data can be used to investigate and analyse it. The combination of financial knowledge, analytical thinking and data-driven methods is at the heart of the new programme.”

In line with European business schools

The new one-year format is also in line with developments at many European universities and business schools.

“For students, this means an intensive year with a clear focus on finance and the skills sought after by employers. At the same time, it gives them the opportunity to earn a specialised Master’s degree in Finance and take the next step in their careers more quickly.”

Applications for the new programme will open October 16 for entry in autumn 2027.
