Both new Hasselblad Guest Professors to join Computer Science and Engineering
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering will welcome both of the new Hasselblad Guest Professors in Natural Sciences. The two positions – one at Chalmers University of Technology and one at the University of Gothenburg – will be based at the joint department.
The guest professorships aim to strengthen specific research areas by bringing internationally leading researchers and new expertise to the universities.

Strengthening research in automated reasoning and trustworthy AI
Vijay Ganesh is Professor of Computer Science at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and a leading researcher in SAT and SMT solvers – methods for solving complex problems in logic – and their applications in areas such as artificial intelligence and software engineering.
Vijay Ganesh is Associate Director of the Institute for Data Engineering and Science and founder and director of the AI4Math Center at Georgia Tech. He is also a co-founder and steering committee member of the Centre for Mathematical AI at the Fields Institute.
His expertise is expected to strengthen the department’s research in automated reasoning, trustworthy AI and formal methods, bringing new perspectives and opportunities for collaboration.
Connecting mathematics, AI and computer science
Siddhartha Gadgil is Professor of Mathematics at the Indian Institute of Science. His research focuses on automated theorem proving – using computers to construct and verify mathematical proofs – including the use of the proof assistant Lean.
Siddhartha Gadgil was recently awarded a grant from the AI for Math Fund, offered by Renaissance Philanthropy, for his project LeanAide, which aims to bridge AI and mathematics through autoformalization.
His work explores how computers can support mathematical reasoning. His time at the department is expected to further strengthen research at the intersection of mathematics, logic and computer science and create new opportunities for collaboration across these fields.
Upcoming international research collaborations
Together with Professors Moa Johansson and Devdatt Dubhashi at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Vijay Ganesh and Siddhartha Gadgil are co-organising the AI4Math conference at the Mittag-Leffler Institute in June 2027.
Vijay Ganesh and Devdatt Dubhashi are also organising a Dagstuhl Seminar on learning and reasoning AI systems in December 2027.
The Erna and Victor Hasselblad Guest Professorship in Natural Sciences was established by the Hasselblad Foundation in 2026 in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg.
The aim is to give the universities an opportunity to strengthen specific research areas by recruiting internationally leading researchers.
Each professorship is funded with up to SEK 2 million and covers a total stay of 12 months, which can be divided over a two-year period.
