A Full Day Dedicated to Women’s Health in Research

Research on women’s health is the theme of the upcoming WCMTM Science Day, an open event for anyone interested in current science and knowledge in the field. The research presented will cover topics ranging from the long-term health effects of pregnancy to new insights into cardiovascular disease and the brain.

Camilla Skånberg, Research Coordinator at the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine (WCMTM), explains that women’s health—despite involving vital issues and half of the population—has often been overlooked in scientific research and also healthcare. Recently, two research leaders at WCMTM were awarded major grants from the European Research Council (ERC) for projects in this area, highlighting both the need and the potential for further research, she says.

“It is very encouraging that both ERC projects focus on women’s health. Hopefully, this will inspire more researchers to include this perspective in their work—historically, it has been underfunded and insufficiently studied. That is precisely why we want to highlight this theme and help bring attention to the need through this event,” says Camilla.

Local, national, and international guests will give presentations alongside the centre’s researchers on ongoing projects. For full details, please visit the event page—and you are warmly welcome to register.

The day will offer both a historical perspective and presentations of current research from the centre’s own research leaders, as well as from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The speakers will also include international guests such as William Grobman, a world-leading professor of obstetrics and gynecology.

“We want visitors—whether they are researchers, students, or members of the public—to leave with a deeper understanding of how broad and important this field is cover the human body as a whole, at different stages of life,” Camilla concludes.
