If you are interested in studying law, the Department of Law at the University of Gothenburg offers research-based education at all levels – bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral. Our teaching is closely connected to our research, which focuses on two strategic areas: societal challenge–driven and education–driven research.

Through education-driven research, we aim to provide a high-quality legal education rooted in the latest academic findings – ensuring that our students engage with law as both a rigorous academic discipline and a tool for addressing real-world challenges. The LL.M. programme is 4,5 years long and leads to a Master of Law exam (Sw. jur. kand). The design and direction of LL.M programmes differ from one Swedish university to another.

The Department of Law also offers a selection of other programme courses for students from other departments at the School of Business, Economics and Law and the University of Gothenburg.

The Department of Law cooperates with a number of international universities and could therefore offer students of the national LL.M programme the opportunity to study abroad, as well as invite international students to study in Gothenburg.

The Department of Law also gives separate courses and tailored courses for professionals. For more information about tailored courses contact the Director of Studies Ylva Benson, ylva.benson@law.gu.se.
