How does war reshape science, the environment, and the way we conduct research? In this seminar, Professor Lesia Pavliukh and Associate Professor Marharyta Radomska from Kyiv, Ukraine, share first-hand perspectives on how research and education have changed since the war and the vital role of international collaboration in addressing emerging challenges. This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from scientists working at the intersection of conflict, environment, and resilience. Time is provided for questions from the audience. Join us live or via Zoom webinar. Open to all.
The seminar will focus on two urgent environmental issues: land degradation and the management of demolition waste. Drawing on original data from war-affected areas, the speakers will present new insights into soil pollution and landscape destruction - some of which challenge earlier expectations - as well as the rapidly growing problem of new types of waste and their overwhelming quantities.
They will also highlight how student research contributes to understanding and responding to these challenges and reflect on how scientific work and education are adapting under extraordinary circumstances.
The seminar is given in English. Join us live at Campus Medicinareberget, University of Gothenburg, or via Zoom webinar. Open to all. Free of charge.
