Sustainability and environment

France and Costa Rica are hosting the third UN Ocean Conference. Researchers from the University of Gothenburg are taking part in several seminars.

The theme of the conference is ‘Accelerating action and mobilising all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean’, with the aim of driving forward the implementation of Global Goal 14 - sustainable oceans and marine resources. 

Focus

Promote multilateral ocean processes by supporting global agreements, such as the Deep Sea Treaty BBNJ and the target to protect 30% of the ocean by 2030.

Mobilise funding for SDG 14 and support the development of a sustainable blue economy

Strengthen marine research and knowledge sharing.
