The research project The Republic of Newsletters focuses on international connections between republicans in the age of revolutions, particularly 1810–1850, and how republican ideas and practices got transported, translated, and adapted to local circumstances. The project examines the transition from what has been called 'the republic of letters', which was an international exchange of ideas between Enlightenment philosophers in the 18th century, and to what I call 'the republic of newsletters', where new political ideas were forged by new type of intellectuals, incl. journalists, who were internationally interconnected.
