This Gothenburg U-GOT KIES seminar has two prominent speakers, who will share their insights about managing and running interdisicplinary, university industry centres.

  • Emil Gustafsson, PhD, is Senior Project Manager, BioProducts Institute, at University of British Columbia, Canada.
  • Lena Gipperth, Professor & Deputy Dean, has served as Director for the Sea & Society Centre, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • Maureen McKelvey, Professor and Director of U-GOT KIES is moderator

Our speakers will discuss their different reflections about how and why to manage university industry centres, including the challenges and opportunities of interdisciplinary centres in the context of universities and interactions with society..

From the perspective of our centre, this type of academic engagement remains an interesting topic, given that through the years, we have developed conceptual frameworks, learnt from case-studies and run larger scale interventions on specifically such centres.

Emil has a broad research background in renewable forest based materials, both in the emerging nanocellulose field as well as in more traditional pulp and paper applications.

The BioProducts Institute (BPI) is an innovative ecosystem of high-impact fundamental and applied researchers working on solutions to today’s climate and environmental challenges. The Institute brings together inter- and multi-disciplinary researchers comprised of scientists, engineers, and market and policy experts to unlock the full potential of materials, chemicals and fuels produced in nature. Based on the guiding principles of circularity, sustainability and renewability, BPI seeks to reduce society’s footprint and tackle rampant environmental challenges such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and plastic waste.
