About the seminar

Professor Siegel’s seminar will address pro-social technology transfer and academic entrepreneurship. In his talk, he will briefly review the literature on institutions and agents involved in technology transfer and academic entrepreneurship (TT-AE), summarize key findings on managerial and public policies, and identify new directions for research on this topic.

To identify these new directions, Professor Siegel will draw on material from a recently published article in the Academy of Management, titled “Perspectives on pro-social TT/AE”, co-authored with Professor Maribel Guerrero. In this article, they show that TT/AE has contributed to the creation of shared technological resources that serve the public, referred to as public interest goods (PIGs) and public interest technologies (PITs). For TT/AE to fully deliver on its potential, the way it is managed and governed needs to be redesigned to better serve the public interest.

Professor Siegel will also outline a range of issues at the micro, meso, and macro levels that researchers from different disciplines should address. These issues are important for helping managers and policymakers who oversee TT/AE. The research should focus on specific actors and institutions within innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems, and on their role in promoting pro-social TT/AE. This approach will support more multi-level research on TT/AE, especially at the micro level, and encourage more studies of national and federal laboratories as well as public research organizations. Examples of these issues will be discussed during the seminar

This seminar will be streamed live, recorded, and later available at the U-GOT KIES archive (https://www.gu.se/en/u-gotkies).
