Bio:

Katie Cuddon is a sculptor living and working in Newcastle upon Tyne. Katie's career as an artist and educator, primarily working through the medium of clay, spans twenty years, with major achievements including a one-person exhibitions at Matt’s Gallery London (No Dimensions, 2025); Hatton Gallery Newcastle (A is for Alma, 2024); De La Warr Pavilion Bexhill-on-Sea (Night Portraits, 2023); Camden Arts Centre London (Spanish Lobe, 2011) which presented the work created on the inaugural ceramics fellowship; an exhibition at Alma Enterprises London (“I no longer know where the money is”, 2010) of work made as Sainsbury Scholar at the British School in Rome (2008-09) and a collaborative exhibition with Celia Hempton at Cell Projects London (Pontoon Lip, 2014). As well as two monographs, her work featured in Vitamin C: Clay and Ceramic in Contemporary Art (Phaidon, 2017). Katie was the recipient of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship (2022-24) for a project titled Re-writing Clay which explored the relationship between clay and writing, and in 2023 received a Wellcome Trust grant to explore how sculpture might give form to grief. 

In 2019 the Arts Council recognised her contribution as a British woman artist when they purchased five works and included her work in the national touring exhibition, Breaking the Mould: Sculpture by Women Since 1945.
