About the event:

Jirair K. Bedoyan is a clinical and biochemical geneticist and associate professor of pediatrics at University of Pittsburgh. He is an internationally leading expert in inherited metabolic disorders, particularly mitochondrial diseases and pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) deficiency, a rare condition in which a key enzyme in the body’s energy production does not function properly.

In this lecture, he will present new therapeutic strategies for PDC deficiency, focusing on how specific genetic variants influence enzyme activity and how this knowledge can be used to develop more targeted treatments. The session will highlight how computational and experimental methods can be combined to improve outcomes.

Title: Novel therapeutic development for pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC) deficiency: variant-specific rescue of PDC activity using a hybrid computational – experimental strategy

The lecture is held in connection with Jirair K. Bedoyan's role as opponent at Antri Savvidou’s dissertation defense on 12 June.
