MA Forum: Yazan Khalili – Institutional Structures as Artistic Medium
Join us for a public seminar with Yazan Khalili, where he will discuss his work on creating platforms for cultural production beyond traditional institutions. The seminar is part of MA Forum, a public seminar series hosted by HDK-Valand.
For the seminar, Yazan Khalili starts from a proposition: that over the past 30 years, one of the main tools of artistic and cultural production has not been traditional media - such as painting, photography, or installation - but the institution itself. Institutional structures now shape how art is produced, circulated, and shared, from funding and management to curating and exhibition.
In response, Khalili’s practice has shifted from representational art toward creating platforms and infrastructures for cultural production. For this seminar Khalili will present projects that build structures enabling artists and cultural workers to research, produce, and share work beyond dominant economic and institutional frameworks.
