A dialogue-based knowledge-exchange event
What role does civil society play in neighbourhoods facing socioeconomic challenges, and how can research and practice work together to strengthen this role?
This dialogue-based knowledge-exchange event presents new findings from several research projects on locally embedded civil society organisations in Sweden and the United Kingdom. The research reveals extensive yet often overlooked local engagement and demonstrates how organisations mobilise resources, build bridges between communities and institutions, and create pathways to participation, belonging and influence. It also highlights the importance of civil society in sharing knowledge, building trust and upholding dignity in the face of inequality, segregation and institutional barriers.
The event brings together researchers and practitioners from civil society, local government, public authorities, and other relevant organisations. Through presentations and collaborative discussions, we will compare experiences from Sweden and the United Kingdom and examine both the potential of civil society and the structural conditions that shape its work.
We invite researchers and practitioners to contribute their knowledge and experience and to join us in identifying new research questions, forms of collaboration and ways forward towards a more inclusive and socially sustainable society.
