Imagine Palestine with Alaa Alqaisi
Public events with Alaa Alqaisi, translator, organzied by research network Imagine Palestine focusing on Palestinian literature, translation, and visions of the future. On 11 May, a conversation will be held at Gothenburg City Library with Alaa Alqaisi and Sanabel Abdel Rahman. On 12 May, Alaa Alqaisi will give a lecture at the Faculty of Humanities.
Talk, 11 May: Imagine Palestine – (Re)Writing and Translating Future Realities
A conversation with Alaa Alqaisi and Sanabel Abdel Rahman exploring Palestinian literature, different forms of aesthetic and political resistance, as well as visions of alternative futures and the dilemmas of translation.
The conversation takes place on 11 May, 18:00–20:00, in the Auditorium at Gothenburg City Library. It is organised by Ord&Bild, the Imagine Palestine seminar series network at the University of Gothenburg, and Gothenburg City Library.
Alaa Alqaisi is a translator and PhD candidate in literature at Trinity College Dublin. Her work has been published in, among others, ArabLit and LitHub. She has also been translated into Swedish in Prisma Palestina (Ord&Bild) and in Aftonbladet Kultur.
Sanabel Abdel Rahman is a writer and researcher. She received her PhD from Philipps-Universität Marburg in Germany with a dissertation on magical realism in Palestinian literature and is currently working on a book on the same topic.
Lecture, 12 May- The double life of the Palestinian Translator
Lecture followed by a discussion with Alaa Alqaisi. The lecture is based on a text of the same title, available in Swedish on the Ord&Bild website.
The lecture will take place on May 12 at 15:15 in room C454, Humanisten, Renströmsgatan 6.
