In the last 5 years, more Danish literary works with trans characters have been published than in the previous 100 years. However, the way in which transmasculine characters are portrayed varies greatly. Some literary works look to transmasculinity as a reservoir for allegories about gender and masculinity in the modern world and tend to present trans men as either dystopian or utopian versions of masculinity. Others use a transmasculine everyday experience as a starting point for critical and ambivalent interventions into masculinity. What is at stake in the different depictions, and what relation to (trans)masculinity do the works point to?
