We invite you to participate in an online seminar dedicated to discussing the historical aspects of the Crimean Peninsula, the crime of the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatar people, and the current situation in Crimea. The speakers will include Ukrainian experts and historians who will provide a comprehensive perspective on the contemporary realities in Crimea and draw parallels with historical events.

Topics of discussion

  • Cultural and Historical Heritage of Crimea: The Legacy of Centuries
  • Deportation of the Crimean Tatars: The Apogee of the Soviet Totalitarian Regime
  • Current Situation in Occupied Crimea (human rights, language policy, religious persecution, etc.)

The online seminar aims to draw clear parallels between the past and present of the peninsula, emphasizing that the international recognition of the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatar people as an act of genocide is not only a matter of historical justice, but also an important step toward preventing the recurrence of such crimes in the future.

The event is organised on the initiative of the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea / Crimea Platform Office, in cooperation with the University of Gothenburg as part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Cooperation, and with the support of the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies.
