Shifting Theological Boundaries: The Encounter between Western Christianity and African Cultures and Religions in Southern Africa.

Henry Mbayo, Professor in Church History, Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

Mbaya will discuss the mutual challenges that arise from encounter between Western theological systems, epistemic principles, and values, and African cultures and religious worldviews. He will consider how central theological ideas like God and salvation and key epistemological categories like truth and knowledge are formed by the encounter, and how African cultural systems challenge and illuminate important borderlines in Western theology.

Chair: Arne Rasmusson.
The seminar will be held in English.
