HDK-Valand at Stockholm Craft Week

The Stockholm Craft Week event aims to make the craft visible and strengthen its position on the contemporary art scene, both nationally and internationally. Together with over 50 participating actors, galleries and institutions, Stockholm Craft Week shines a light on an expanding art field. This year HDK-Valand is represented in no less than three of the event's program points and thus offers an exciting range.

October 6
Panel Talk
Konstfack och HDK-Valand

About the panel talk
With this panel talk, the participants want raise discussion and debate sthe higher educations within arts and crafts and its relevance in the present. The panel discussion takes place in two parts and includes a public question and answer session. The conversation will be held in Swedish. The participants are teachers, education managers and students from the craft programs at HDK-Valand and Konstfack as well as representatives from craft-field organisations, educational authorities, politicians and professional craft artists.

In part one of the panel discussion, the content and relevance of the educations are discussed in relation to the arts and crafts field and professional life.

In part two of the panel discussion, the role of arts and crafts programs in higher education and its relationship to the outside world is discussed.

Exhibition: Extended Family II
Metal Art, HDK-Valand, Campus Steneby

Time: 12 noon - 5 pm
Location: Sergelgången 29, Stockholm, (Designtorget's former premises)

About the exhibition
During Stockholm Craft Week, nineteen material-based artisans, with various connections to the Metal Art education, Campus Steneby, take over Designtorget's old premises at Sergels Torg. "Extended Family II" is a follow-up to the group's first exhibition that was shown during Munich Jewelry Week, summer 2022. Among the exhibitors are both alumni and teachers from Metal Art, HDK-Valand, Campus Steneby, University of Gothenburg.

Exinition: I och med kroppen
Textile – Body – Space, HDK-Valand, Campus Steneby

Time: 11 am – 5 pm
Location: Hägerstensåsens medborgarhus, Riksdalervägen 2, Hägersten

About the exhibition
In the exhibition "I och med kroppen " the participating artists used their own bodies as a starting point. They try to see the body and its relationship to the outside world through a number of questions: How can traumatic feelings be embodied in a puppet? What are the bio-degradable alternatives to textiles and if so, how do they relate to the human body and nature? How can the relationship to the male body be discussed through textile materials? In the exhibition, you can see works by alumni from the bachelor's program Textile – Body – Space, HDK Valand.
