William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, one of the most famous plays in world literature, was written at the intersection of conflict and uncertainty stemming from the reformation, the rise of individualism and the relative instability of the Tudor dynasty drawing to a close. Three intellectual traditions – Catholicism, Calvinism and Doubt – vie with one another exposing the detritus of the various competing factions, as will be discussed in this talk.

Chair: Philip Lavender.
