Organizer
HDK-Valand – Högskolan för konst och design

This year’s student group have taken up the opportunity of a new, temporary location at Slakthuset, understanding it as a kind of creative hub in which they can welcome and host new audiences to their work.

Developed as 14 independent artistic projects motivated by processes of research and enquiry, Speculative Gatherings is a public occasion offering a dynamic series of art works, hosted talks, dinners, performances, readings and screenings.

Under the collective title of Speculative Gatherings the group aims to explore: “What worlds are possible? What stories do we want to tell? In a society focused on the individual, how do we create ways of gathering? Speculating asks us to think about how things are and how they could be. When we gather we make worlds, share ideas, use tools, and tell stories.”

Investigating new futures

In 2024, the graduating MFA Fine Art students will occupy the space of Slakthuset in Gamlestan, the future location of Göteborgs Konsthall. The MFA Fine Art programme has had multiple forms of partnership with Göteborgs Konsthall for almost 70 years, the exhibition of the Master’s students degree projects being one. This year the partnership with Göteborgs Konsthall has continued through the development of the events programme, which will investigate new futures for both.
