Futures for whom? Constructions of possible futures and gendering practices in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic
Where will the pandemic take us? What are the possible futures following the pandemic? How can gender scholars respond to and challenge the construction of a “new” normal? There is no doubt that the pandemic will have dramatic and long-term effects, although it is still obscure what these effects may be. We are in the midst of power struggles on those yet-to-come effects, where possible futures gain legitimacy to construction of the present in discriminatory ways. This symposium address questions of possible futures and the construction of longing for futures in the midst of a pandemic, asking: futures for whom?
