Researching emerging digital technologies such as blockchain or Self-Sovereign Identity is an elusive challenge.
On the one hand, there is an increasing need to understand the potential impacts and societal implications of these novel technologies when they are used. On the other hand, this estimation is not a trivial task if the technologies remain hyped, immature, and untested.
It is also not the job of information systems researchers to promote and hype unfinished technologies. The more “bleeding edge” the technologies get, the bigger the associated opportunities and challenges for research, industries, and society.
