Constructing Low Cost Ocean Sensors
The availability of low cost electronics and user friendly software development languages and tools have in the past decade increased the possibilities of building Internet-of-things (IoT) devices at home. Today it is both relatively cheap and easy to build a device that integrates various types of sensors and then sends it to a cloud-based web environment where data can be shared. This talk will demonstrate how a hobbyist style sensor package for marine measurements can be designed and constructed. It will be a live demonstration starting from cheap boxed equipment that ends up in bottled ocean observatory connected to the cloud.

About the speaker
Ola Benderius has an extensive track record in building physical research vehicles and conducting experiments involving such vehicles. He has been involved in the Chalmers Revere vehicle lab since its start in 2015, where he designed logging systems for cars, trucks, boats, and drones. He has also a large interest in teaching and outreach activities not at least connected to the teaching platform Kiwi, an autonomous vehicle used in teaching targeting young children to senior citizens.
