Ph.D.-STUDENTS FROM GOTHENBURG IN PITTSBURGH

During the last 10 years, all PhD-students from Sahlgrenska University who are involved in knee-related projects spend time in Pittsburgh, working on their PhD-projects, new projects and to establish further and future collaboration. They work on clinical studies and participate in laboratory work. The PhD-students stay in Pittsburgh from a few weeks to several months. The purpose is to enrich and deepen their scientific knowledge and provide them with an international experience.

The students who have studied in Pittsburgh are;

1) Mattias Ahlden, (Clinical Grading of the Pivot Shift Test Correlates Best with Tibial Acceleration)

2) Kristian Samuelsson, (Trends in Surgeons Preferences on Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstructive Techniques)

3) Neel Desai, (Anatomic Single- Versus Bundle ACL Reconstruction)

4) Haukur Bjornsson (Is Double Bundle Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Superior to Single Bundle)

5) Eric Hamrin Senorski (No Differences in Subjective Knee Function Between Surgical Techniques of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction at 2-Year Follow-Up. Studies from the Swedish National Knee Ligament Register)

6) Eleonor Svantesson (Static Anteroposterior Knee Laxity Tests are Poorly Correlated to Quantitative Pivot Shift in the ACL-Deficient Knee: A Prospective Multicenter Studies)

7) Alexandra Horvath (Objectifying the PIVOT Shift Test, Long-term follow-up of the Pivot Shift Trial)

8) Emma Bergerson, (Predictors of cross over from non-operative to operative treatment for ACL injuries)

9) Kajsa Persson (Outcome of operative vs. non-operative treatment for ACL injuries)

POSTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT PROJECT (PCL) 2020

In 2020, started a collaboration on reserach into PCL (Posterior Cruciate Ligament) injuries. In this collaboration we will leverage the Swedish Knee Ligament Register and also collaborate with the Norwegian and Danish registries in order to study injury and treatment patterns for patients with PCL injuries and the outcome of PCL surgery. This work will help improve patient care for patients with severe knee PCL injuries. In a first step, we have preformed an extensive review of the literature (systematic reviews), which is attached below as recent two-part publication and an Editorial.

PANTHER ACL CONSENSUS PROJECT 2019

The international Panther consensus meeting in Pittsburgh. The outcome of the meeting was a successful adoption of three consensus statements related to ACL injuries and complex knee surgery. 1. Clinical outcome after an ACL injury and treatment, 2. Operative versus non-operative treatement of ACL injury and 3. Return to Sports after an ACL injury. These consensus statements were published in three different major journals in the field of knee injuries and knee surgery and will be helpful to surgeons and scientists for years to come. The publications from this project are as follows;
