About Tran Thanh Phong Trang

Phong Trang is a doctoral student at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning (IPKL) and a member of GRAITE, the graduate school for AI and teacher education.

His research examines how generative AI is changing the professional work of teacher educators. AI systems no longer behave like tools that are picked up and put down. They now propose, draft and decide. His work asks what happens to professional judgment and accountability when part of the pedagogical work is carried out by a system. He studies how teacher educators notice this, how they argue about it, and how responsibility for the result is distributed between person and machine.

He comes to this question from practice rather than from theory. He taught languages in Ho Chi Minh City, worked in learning analytics, and spent four years as a product manager at Volvo Cars building generative AI decision support. The question he brought to every project was how you know a model's answer is good enough to act on. Having built systems that sit inside other people's decisions, he now studies what those systems do to judgment in a setting where judgment is the substance of the work
