About Karolina Thörnqvist

I am a PhD student at the Institute of Health and Care Sciences at the University of Gothenburg. I hold a Bachelor of Medical Science in Public Health Sciences with a specialization in Health Economics, and a Master’s degree in Evidence-Based Practice.

My doctoral project, How would you rate your health? Individual and contextual determinants of self-rated health in later life, examines individual and contextual determinants of self-rated health among older adults. The project also explores how these determinants vary across age groups and birth cohorts, as well as the role of shifting meanings and changing reference points in self-assessments of health in later life.

The study draws on epidemiological and survey data from the H70 studies, the Swedish Citizen Panel, and HEARTS (Health, Ageing and Retirement Transitions in Sweden).

I teach scientific methodology at undergraduate level and supervise Bachelor’s theses within the Nursing Programme. I also contribute to teaching at advanced and doctoral level, primarily in research methodology and ageing-related health.
