About Isabelle Diana Woloszczuk

Isabelle is a doctoral student in Education/Special Education whose research examines the concepts of care and love in Early Deaf Childhood Care and Education.

Her doctoral research adapts an ethnographic case study approach to explore a multilingual-multimodal preschool in Sweden that serves deaf, hard-of-hearing, hearing, and signing children. Within this educational setting, Isabelle aims to investigate and understand how the concepts of care and love are conceptualised, embedded, and enacted in the preschool's daily practices.

Research Interests: Deaf Education; Care; Love; Early Deaf Childhood Care and Education; Philosophy of Education.

Background: Isabelle has an interdisciplinary background spanning across Deaf Education, Sign Language Pedagogy and English (B.A.), and Early Childhood Care and Education research (M.Sc.). Furthermore, during her bachelor's studies, she worked for several years as a research assistant to Dr. Kazuko Yatsushiro at the Leibniz Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS) in Berlin.

Her professional experience includes several years of working in various preschools across Sweden and Germany, focusing on inclusive care and education with children from various linguistic, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds as well as children in need of special support. She also has experience teaching German Sign Language to adults.
