About Giorgia Ortolani

My research focuses on the structural characterization and dynamics of photoactivated membrane proteins, particularly within the Rhodopsin family. To investigate these systems, I employ advanced biophysical techniques such as cryo-crystallography, time-resolved serial crystallography, and time-resolved X-ray solution scattering. Additionally, I have experience in studying soluble mitochondrial proteins using single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to elucidate their structural properties.

Building on this expertise, I am now expanding my research to explore viral proteins with the goal of developing novel antiviral therapeutics. By integrating structural biology methods (including time-resolved crystallography and cryo-EM) with computational drug discovery approaches, I aim to uncover key mechanistic insights into viral protein function and identify potential drug targets. This interdisciplinary strategy bridges experimental and computational techniques to advance our understanding of viral pathogenesis and facilitate rational drug design.
