Erica is the Head of Data at the Governance and Local Development Institute (GLD) and the Data Team Leader for the Quality of Government Institute (QoG) within the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg. She holds a PhD in Statistics from Texas A&M University and a BS in Mathematics & Statistics with a minor in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Erica has overseen the implementation of multiple large-scale surveys of varying formats in countries across the MENA and Sub-Saharan Africa regions. She was also the PI of the Swedish Research Links program, which provided junior scholars from Kenya, Zambia, and Malawi the opportunity to expand their professional networks through new collaborations with senior scholars. She is also the founder and facilitator of the Internship Lab and co-host of Data Breakfast.
She is currently Principal Investigator (PI) for the Emerging Cities Project and Co-PI for the Survive, Thrive, or Deprive? Drivers and Outcomes of Resilience During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Malawi Project. As a statistician, she also provides statistical consulting for various projects and create tools and procedures for the design and implementation of fieldwork and analysis plans. Within her managerial roles, she recruits, manages, and trains data team staff and interns.
