About Catharina Bergil
Head of Unit, Performing Arts, Academy of Music and Drama, and lecturer in the acting programme’s course Theatre and Society. As Head of Unit, I am in charge of a unit that includes research, four teaching teams, and six degree programmes in, among other fields, acting, opera, musical theatre, and contemporary performative arts. Each year, a large number of guest lecturers and practitioners are engaged in varying capacities across these programmes.
From 2002 to 2011, I served as Programme Director, Deputy Museum Director, and Acting Museum Director at the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg, where I was primarily responsible for public programmes addressing global contemporary issues. Prior to this, I worked as a theatre producer, among other places at Folkteatern and Gothenburg City Theatre.
I am Chair of the Board of Angereds Teater and a board member of Bibu. Over the years, I have held recurring assignments for organisations such as the Gothenburg Dance and Theatre Festival, the Swedish Arts Council, the City of Gothenburg, Göteborg & Co, and the Västra Götaland Region, as well as serving as a moderator, particularly in the context of current cultural debate. Since 2025, I have been an assessor for Kulturbryggan’s performing arts grant applications.
