I’m a molecular biologist, graduated from the Autonomous Metropolitan University – Cuajimalpa. I later pursued an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s degree in Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, which I completed at the University of Bordeaux and the University of the Basque Country. Currently, I’m doing a PhD in Microbial Ecotoxicology at the University of Gothenburg. My PhD project focuses on the microbial communities that inhabit the sediment within aquatic ecosystems. These communities play a crucial role in preserving the health of the environment due to their diverse functions and biodiversity. Besides, sediment can accumulate antibiotic contaminants, along with the genes that confer antibiotic resistance to bacteria and the antibiotic-resistant bacteria themselves. Therefore, this project aims to investigate how these factors affect the natural functions of indigenous bacteria and the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance transfer in the environment. Overall, this research will enhance our understanding of the ecological risks posed by these elements in sediment.
