Agnes Lanker
Doctoral Student
Department of Education and Special EducationAbout Agnes Lanker
I am a doctoral student in Educational work at the Department of Education and Special Education, University of Gothenburg, and an upper secondary school teacher of Swedish as a Second Language by training. Since autumn 2024, I have been pursuing a PhD project that explores how discourses of sexuality are articulated in relation to Swedish as a Second Language within the Language Introduction Programme for newly arrived students in upper secondary education in Sweden.
Drawing on critical ethnography and discourse analysis, my research investigates how teachers and students negotiate, discuss, and construct understandings of sexuality in educational settings. Through participant observation, interviews, and focus groups, I examine how sexuality is expressed and made meaningful in relation to the teaching and learning of Swedish as a Second Language.
My work is informed by a range of critical theoretical perspectives, particularly queer, postcolonial, feminist, and discourse theory.
