About Sofiia Skipor

I am a PhD researcher in environmental psychology within the DEEP research group (Decision Making, Environmental, Economic, and Political Psychology) at the Applied Psychology section. My work takes an interdisciplinary perspective on how people understand and respond to climate change risks.

Research focus:

I study individuals’ attitudes and behaviors related to climate change, with a particular focus on extreme weather events such as heatwaves, floods, and storms. I investigate how experiencing these events shapes our perceptions of climate change, preparedness for future risks, and support for climate-related policies. By examining these processes, my research aims to inform policymaking, improve risk communication, and support communities in adapting to climate change.

My research combines multiple methods, including large-scale longitudinal surveys that track individuals over time, meta-analyses synthesizing evidence across studies, and risk communication experiments conducted both online and in real-world settings.

Collaborations:

In addition to my core PhD research, I collaborate on international interdisciplinary projects that examine how people perceive and respond to climate-related risks across different contexts. These collaborations allow me to integrate insights from multiple disciplines and contribute to a more holistic understanding of climate change attitudes and behaviors.

Research interests: climate change risk perception; extreme weather experiences; climate policy support; emergency preparedness and adaptation; risk communication; environmental psychology.
