Master’s program in EU Administration

This program aims to provide specific knowledge and skills required to successfully work within or towards the EU administrations. It is a one-year advanced program for people with diverse educational backgrounds who need expertise about the European Union (EU) for their future careers. The pedagogical foundation of the program is to cross the boundaries between the academic and professional spheres, reflected in the program’s combination of research-based campus teaching with study visits and an EU-focused evaluation project.

The program equips students with analytical skills to assess European integration processes, external relations, and the implications of supranational decisions, as well as the tools to develop strategies for effective European cooperation. The courses are closely linked to current research, with a particular emphasis on multidisciplinary European studies. Together with practical elements such as study visits and the evaluation of real cases, the program provides a combination of research-based and practical knowledge.

Eligible for the programme is the one who has:

A Bachelor’s degree (180 credits)

Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 6/English lever 2 from Swedish Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.

The programme’s one-year structure comprises six courses, one of which is an elective, one course in research and evaluation methods, and a final examination project.

This is a full-time program.

Semester 1

EU2400 Practical EU knowledge, 10 credits

EU2401 Working in the EU institutions, 5 credits

and

EU2610 Challenges to European Integration, 15 credits

Semester 2

EU2301 Research and Evaluation Methods, 7,5 credits

and

EU2620 Advanced Themes in European Studies, 7,5 credits

or

Elective similar course, after approval by Director of Studies, 7,5 credits

and

EU2550 European Evaluation Project, 15 credits

After completing the program, the student shall have achieved the objectives applicable to the relevant qualification set out in the Higher Education Ordinance (Swedish Code of Statutes – SFS 1993:100, Qualifications Ordinance, Appendix 2).

• The Master’s Program quality assurance activities are prepared in accordance with the applicable Policy for the Quality Assurance and Quality Development of Education at the University of Gothenburg.
• The language of instruction is English.
• The cost of travel and accommodation for mandatory trips and visits will be covered by the education. Any other travel-related expenses that may arise will be paid by the student.

Students admitted to the program have general guaranteed admission to all compulsory courses within the program, provided that they 1) apply according to specific dadministrative procedures, and 2) have completed the prerequisite courses. Students admitted to the program have limited guaranteed admission to the elective courses within the programme under the same conditions as above.
