The master’s programme gave Mario valuable skills and international perspectives
Mario Tabares Gomez is an alumnus from the Master’s Programme in Strategic Human Resource Management and Labour Relations who has not been wanting for work since graduation. He says the programme prepared him for an international career and to work in diverse and dynamic settings.
Mario Tabares Gomez has a background in human resources and was already a qualified lawyer when he decided to enhance his HR skills by enrolling in the international HRM master’s programme at the University of Gothenburg.
– I was fortunate because I was already working while I was studying. After graduating, I mainly found new opportunities to participate in different projects and continue growing professionally, he says.
After graduation, he has been working internationally in different leadership and operational roles. Currently, he has two positions, one as Chief Compliance and Operating Officer for an insurance company based in Bermuda, and the other in operations for an HR and labour law consultancy in Argentina.
The work involves operations, compliance, project management, leadership, and coordinating global teams across different areas and functions.
The best thing about my job is the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects with people from different backgrounds and areas of expertise.

I am constantly learning new things, leading projects, and working with global teams. There is always something new to discover and an opportunity to apply everything I have learned throughout my academic and professional journey.
Developed a global mindset
Mario Tabares Gomez believes that the master’s education from the University of Gothenburg is highly valued by employers and entrepreneurs internationally, and that it helped open doors professionally.
–The tools, frameworks, and concepts I learned during the master’s programme helped me build a much more strategic perspective in my current roles. They gave me practical and theoretical foundations that I still apply in my work today, he says.
Another valuable aspect is the international perspective the programme gave him.
Studying alongside colleagues from all over the world exposed me to different ways of thinking, working, and collaborating. That experience was incredibly enriching.

In addition, he also took the opportunity to do an Erasmus exchange in Austria during the programme.
– In total, I spent almost a year in Sweden and another year in Austria after extending my exchange. Those experiences really opened my mind and helped me develop a more global mindset.
Mario Tabares Gomez thinks the programme is ideal for curious people who are willing to step outside their comfort zone, work with people from different cultures, and collaborate in diverse teams.
–I would encourage anyone considering the programme to fully embrace that opportunity; to connect, share experiences, learn from others, and continue growing both professionally and personally.
