The invisible hand of public opinion: The underappreciated importance of political non-decisions
Research project
Short description
This project investigates how public opinion shapes politics not only through reactions to policy decisions but also through preventing unpopular proposals from ever being made. By mapping motions submitted to Swedish party congresses and studying public and elite attitudes to proposals that parties choose not to pursue, the project reveals how citizens' values constrain the political agenda.
