Lens-Based Media Convergences: Surveying, Digitising, Analysing and Providing Access to the Hasselblad Foundation’s Film Collection

The project takes the Hasselblad Foundation’s film collection, comprising approximately 60 reels of analogue film, as its point of departure. It aims to survey, assess and analyse the collection in preparation for its transfer to the National Archives in Gothenburg for long-term preservation. The collection consists primarily of material originating from the camera manufacturer Victor Hasselblad and concerns both the Hasselblad camera and broader aspects of local, national and international photographic culture.

A substantial part of the collection will also be digitised in order to make it accessible to researchers as well as to the interested public. The project will assess the collection’s potential for future research and will include a specific case study focusing on a group of promotional films for Hasselblad cameras from the 1960s and 1970s.
