The tent manifestation affected by the EU elections

Published

The university main building in Vasaparken will serve as a voting location for the EU elections on Sunday, June 9. Due to specific regulations regarding voting locations, there is an ongoing dialogue between the Election Authority and the Police. The university has been informed that the current tent manifestation needs to be relocated before election day.

The Police have communicated with the University Management, the landowner (City of Gothenburg, Urban Environment Department), and the contact persons for the manifestation. This involves a relocation, not an eviction or dispersal of the public gathering.

Vice-Chancellor Malin Broberg emphasises that this is not the university's responsibility.

”This is not our issue, and we are not in any way involved in the decision-making process. As we understand it, the reason is the regulations surrounding voting locations and expressions of opinion in proximity to them. The aim is simply to create a more neutral space on election day.”

The tent manifestation began on May 14, and the Vice-Chancellor has met with the representatives for the manifestation on three occasions.
