More students in the autumn than last year

Published

Roughly twenty-six thousand people have been admitted to the autumn's various courses at the University of Gothenburg

This is slightly more than for the corresponding semester last year. A total of 73,635 people had applied for the autumn's courses and programs at the University of Gothenburg. Of these, just over a third, 26,697 people, are notified within days that they have been accepted for their education.

"Compared to last autumn semester, there are a few more accepted this year, although not as many as the first pandemic year. Recession and unemployment are probably behind the continued high numbers", says Jessica Nyberg Pettersson, acting section manager at the Admissions Section.

Almost twice as many women as men both apply for and are admitted to the university's courses for the autumn semester 2023. Of those admitted, 17,586 are women and 9,111 are men.
