Published

The annual ASWEDE conference brought together development economists from across Sweden to present and discuss cutting-edge research.

On 17–18 November, the Department of Economics at the University of Gothenburg hosted the annual ASWEDE Conference, gathering development economists active at Swedish universities for two days of research presentations, discussion and networking. This year’s event brought together 55 researchers from Stockholm University, the Stockholm School of Economics, Uppsala University and the University of Gothenburg.

Participants presented new research spanning a wide range of pressing global issues. Topics included social norms related to women’s veiling in Iran, the health effects of 3G mobile network expansion in Africa, the relationship between motherhood and violence in Mexico, and how land rights security influences talent allocation in China. The diversity of subjects reflected both the breadth and the depth of development economics research currently being conducted in Sweden.

The conference provided a valuable forum for scholarly exchange, fostering collaboration among researchers at different institutions and highlighting emerging insights within the field.

With this year’s successful gathering now concluded, we are already looking forward to next year’s ASWEDE Conference, which will be hosted in Stockholm.
